An area resident reported to the SuwaneePolice Department that a man attempted to assault her last evening while she was on the soft-surface trail at Suwanee Creek Park. Fortunately, she was able to flee unharmed.
The only description police have of the suspect is of a male approximately 6-foot tall in dark clothing, wearing long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and dark-colored baseball cap. If you saw anyone matching this description, please contact Det. Sgt. Shane Edmisten at 770/945-8995.
This is the first such reported incident since the popular trail opened more than 15 years ago. Thousands of people use the trail annually.
The police department offers the following reminders to promote personal safety while using the greenway:
Use the trails with others; do not go alone.
Do not use the greenway after dark.
Carry pepper spray and your cell phone with you.
Refrain from using iPods or other MP3 players, or at minimum keep the volume down low so that you can hear what's going on around you.
Be aware of your surroundings - your location on the greenway, people around you, and trail conditions.
Let someone know where you're going (and specifically your planned route along the trail) and when you expect to return.
Report any suspicious individuals or activities to the Suwanee Police Department.

I would like to make all of our neighbors aware of some recent criminal activity in our neighborhood. Monday night (10/13/08), my truck was burglarized in my driveway in front of my home. Several items were stolen to include my Sheriff's badge and ID. A police report was filed and the theft has been entered into the national crime database since a law enforcement badge and ID were included in the theft. The police indicated that they believe people are going through our neighborhood looking for any doors left unlocked. They have reportedly been active primarily at night but incidents have also occurred during daylight hours. Please notify our community to always lock their doors and to look out for their fellow neighbors to combat crime in our community. Gwinnett Police should be notified of suspicious people.
Thank you all for your continued attention and respect of our neighbors in regarding animals, especially in the meadow. Kindly clean up after your dog(s) and please keep in mind Ordinance Section 10-29 -- keeping animals under control within the County. Many of our neighbors have expressed concern (and danger) with unleashed dogs. Should you have a concern with an animal, please speak with the owner as a concerned neighbor or you can contact Gwinnett County Animal Control - www.gwinnettcounty.com - (770) 339-3200
Volunteers are welcome on various Rivermoore Park committees and community initiatives. Activities are ongoing year round, so please get in touch if you are interested.
