Dear Rivermoore Park residents,
It seems that no sooner do we address the challenges of drought than we are faced with the threat of flooding. Neighborhoods in Nashville may have avoided flooding had their drainage systems been maintained. With proper planning we have an opportunity to avoid such disasters here in Rivermoore. Based on predictions for our area, by NOAA, the Board of Directors is taking the condition of our storm water drainage system very seriously. We have had a preliminary inspection of Rivermoore Park common area drainage systems. At the recreation area the work has already begun.
Storm drains located on private property do not fall under the responsibility of the HOA. It has been suggested by Gwinnett County that many of the storm drains, on private property, have been compromised. Our goal is preparedness for both the HOA and our individual residents. Storm drains located on private property are the sole responsibility of the homeowner, to maintain and repair. It is imperative that storm drains be inspected and kept clear. If there is a clogged storm drain, on your property, your home may flood. In addition, you may be liable for the flooding of others, if you are lax in the cleaning of the storm drain located on your property. We will provide a list of companies that perform this type of work, in an effort to expedite the process.
Although it is the primary responsibility of the homeowner to keep the storm drains free of debris, there is much we can do, as a community, to prevent their being clogged. Over the last 10 years many of our wooded common areas have been used as dumping grounds for residents not wanting to dispose of their yard refuse legally. Heavy rains are causing much of this debris to wash into, and clog, our storm drains. This organic material (grass clippings, dead bushes, branches, tree limbs, etc.) has become so built up over the years it is not decaying into the ground, but being washed into your neighbor’s storm drain. Simply put, you would not haul all of your yard debris to your neighbor’s storm drain and dump it there, but by dumping it into our common areas it is ending up clogging your neighbor’s storm drain.
There is a further concern with residents illegally dumping yard waste into the wetlands that travel through our neighborhood. We will be investigating this further.

drain repair and trash removal which comes through the drain system up stream from the detention pond.
At a previous community I lived in there was no maintenance on the detention pond and the water finally flowed under the dam and the community had to spend
over ,000.00 to repair the problem.
Please advise what action the committee will be taking on resolving this problem.
